Daniel Šebesta

Daniel Šebesta is the chief linguist in the team. Daniel specializes in marketing, business, IT and renewable energy and is primarily responsible for the English-to-Czech and German-to-Czech language pairs.
Having achieved a master’s degree equivalent in Czech linguistics and a bachelor’s degree equivalent in German linguistics at Charles University in Prague and having studied in Germany, Canada and New Zealand too, he has worked in the language industry since 2003—as a translator, proofreader, copyeditor, linguistic consultant, project manager, language instructor, terminologist, lexicographer and researcher. A native speaker of Czech and a state-certified German translator, Daniel also holds a Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), a Business English Certificate (BEC) Higher and a Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (GDS). He also has some command of French, Spanish, Latin; Slovak, Polish, Sorbian, Old Church Slavonic; Old and Middle High German; and Māori. Daniel is a Corresponding Member of the American Translators Association (ATA) as well as a member of the Czech Union of Interpreters and Translators (JTP) and the Modern Language Association (MLA). He has co-authored five printed German-Czech dictionaries, phrasebooks and grammar books and regularly contributes to the English, German and Czech Wikipedias in the field of linguistics. He has also worked in a linguistic research position at the Czech Language Institute of the Academy of Sciences and has lectured on punctuation and typography at conferences around the world (Jerusalem, New York, Rome etc.).
In his free time, Daniel is a passionate traveller. He has visited countries as diverse as Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Poland, Puerto Rico, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Tonga, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vatican City.
