Proofreading (or translation editing) means checking someone else’s translation against the source text in order to detect and correct errors that may have arisen in the translation stage and to enhance readability.
Possible errors are mistranslation, omission, addition, typing mistake, grammar mistake, spelling mistake, punctuation mistake, typographical mistake, inappropriate choice of register (style), non-standard or inconsistent terminology usage, unsubstantiated change of formatting etc.
As two pairs of eyes see more than one, every translation should be proofread by another linguist. The proofreading stage is part of our standard procedure unless it is explicitely not required. Since it must be carried out by another professional, it is considered, and charged for as, a separate service.
